Sustainable homes completed at Leeds’ £125m Climate Innovation District

Sustainable housing developer Citu is preparing to welcome residents to new homes at the £125m Climate Innovation District in Leeds.

The company is days away from seeing the first people move into its timber-framed properties on the city centre’s South Bank.

The milestone follows years of planning and months of construction work, during which Citu has aimed to minimise the carbon footprint by manufacturing timber frames at its Citu Works factory, located a few hundred metres from the Climate Innovation District.

Citu MD Chris Thompson said: “We’re currently fitting out the first 18 homes in the District and more than 56 people have reserved a Citu Home.

“The first completions will be in January and then we’ll be building more homes to meet the intense interest the District has been generating.”

Chris added: “These are the first family homes to be built in Leeds city centre for over 90 years so it’s a significant milestone for both Citu and the city.”

Speaking further, Chris said the wider regeneration of South Bank is “gaining further momentum” as housebuilders continue to acquire sites in the area. Planning consent is now in place for the creation of more than 3,000 new homes.

Chris commented: “This is great for the area; what was once seen as an industrial location is fast becoming a place that people want to call home where they can be part of new thriving communities for the long term.”

Later this year, Citu will launch its first apartment block in the Climate Innovation District – a 36-apartment scheme called The Honeycomb.

Future phases of the District will deliver a total of 520 homes.
