Hartlepool metalwork business acquires new machinery in £1m investment programme

Metalwork business The Expanded Metal Company has strengthened its manufacturing capabilities by investing in advanced equipment at its Hartlepool premises.

As part of a £1m investment programme at the 269,000 sq ft facility, the company purchased two Meltog STM 75 machines used to make spiral filter tubes.

The equipment produces consistently high collapse strength tubes using stainless steel, tin-plated steel, aluminium alloys, copper-based alloys and other materials.

The Expanded Metal Company’s managing director, Philip Astley, said: “The spiral filter tubes which we can now manufacture on-site in Hartlepool join a rich product portfolio which supports the work of contractors and end users in a wide range of sectors.

“By investing in new technology such as the Meltog STM 75 machines, we are ensuring that we remain at the forefront of product innovation and development, and can offer solutions in line with the needs of industry.”

He added: “The investment programme we now have in place is helping us to build on our existing capabilities and services, and represents an exciting phase in The Expanded Metal Company’s development.”

The Expanded Metal Company’s history dates back to 1889, when it was founded by entrepreneur John French Golding.

The firm supplies a range of expanded metal mesh products. Its specialist capabilities include metal work such as cutting, welding, drilling, punching, shearing and roll forming.
