Japanese IT company to invest £100m in UK operation

Japan-headquartered IT services firm NTT DATA has revealed plans to invest £100m in its UK operation.

The announcement, coinciding with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe’s meeting today (January 10) with PM Theresa May, will see the firm open new offices around the UK and an innovation centre at London’s Silicon Roundabout.

Simon Williams, chief executive of NTT DATA UK, is attending a reception with Mr Abe and Ms May at 10 Downing Street, where the leaders are due to discuss the future of Japanese-British business links.

The talks will also cover the potential for post-Brexit business collaboration, with businesses like NTT DATA.

CEO Simon Williams said: “Meetings like the reception today are crucial to develop and maintain lasting business relationships between Japan and the UK.

“Post-Brexit, we believe the UK is, and will continue to be, a thriving market and innovation centre for countries in Europe and the rest of the world.”

He added: “There are significant opportunities for companies like NTT DATA to grow our UK presence, whilst helping partners and customers to develop and benefit from international collaboration.”
