Durham University set for expansion with £1.1m Yorkshire furniture supplier contract

Yorkshire-based furniture and fixtures supplier, SouthernsBroadstock has won a £1.1m contract to supply furnishings for Durham University’s newest teaching facility.

SouthernsBroadstock, part of Extentia Group, will manufacture and install fitted and loose furniture, printer hubs, classroom furniture and soft furnishings as part of the contract at the new 90,000 sq ft teaching and learning centre on Durham’s South Road.

The building forms part of the university’s main campus, providing a state-of-the-art facility for students and academic staff. The installation begins onsite in April 2019 and is set to be complete by June 2019.

This scheme is set to aid SouthernsBroadstock’s knowledge in the higher education sector, where its current clients include the University of Manchester, the University of Birmingham and Nottingham Trent University.

Gareth Williams, account manager at SouthernsBroadstock, said: “We’re seeing a growing trend of universities investing in their learning spaces to provide state-of-the art facilities for their students, enabling them to attract the very best talent in a competitive higher education environment.

“We’ve worked alongside Durham University for over 15 years, modernising the campus to provide the most productive learning environment for students. We’re looking forward to collaborating with the team on this exciting project.”

SouthernsBroadstock is part of Extentia Group - 11 specialist businesses offering services across the full lifecycle of real estate assets - from design, project management and delivery, to optimisation, FF&E solutions and facilities management.

Simon Watt, Durham University’s senior project manager, added: “We are continuously working to enhance our facilities to guarantee the very best experience for our students, nurturing different teaching and learning styles.

“Partnering with SouthernsBroadstock will allow us to future-proof our new learning centre, safeguarding our position as a provider of some of the highest-quality teaching in the UK.”
