Local housebuilder leaves green footprint across Yorkshire

Local five-star housebuilder Barratt Developments has been leaving green footprints across the Yorkshire region this year by implementing environmentally friendly practices and giving nature a home at its new developments, as well as investing in local communities.

The Yorkshire East and Yorkshire West divisions, which has its The Pastures development in Knaresborough near Harrogate and Templars Chase in Wetherby, built a combined total of 1,464 new homes during 2018, recycled 97.5% of its construction waste and invested £10.3million in communities through local contributions.

As well as investing a further £21.6million in physical works, such as environmental and highway improvements, the housebuilder focused on creating homes for nature as well as people.

A conscious effort was made to support the local environment, with 85,020 trees and shrubs planted or retained on developments and a further 21.9 hectares of greenspace was created through publicly accessible open space and private gardens, equivalent to around 297 tennis courts, to help support wildlife on and around its sites.

A spokesperson from Barratt Developments, commented: “As a five-star housebuilder, sustainable building is a key consideration throughout the development process. We are very aware of the effect our work can have on the local environment and community, and we are extremely dedicated to developing more environmentally friendly processes that take care of the communities we build in.”
