Former DVLA base in Gosforth set for 70-home resi transformation

Plans have been approved for a project to turn the former Newcastle home of the DVLA into dozens of flats.

Lok Developments, part of the Morton Group, has received the greenlight to deliver Regents Plaza – a scheme comprising 70 one- and two-bedroom apartments at the former Eagle Star House building in Gosforth.

The top two floors will house luxury duplex living space in the form of six two-bed apartments with views over nearby Gosforth Park and the Newcastle skyline.

Regents Plaza will also include a fitness suite and meeting rooms for local businesses, along with onsite car parking and bike storage.

Managing director Gary Morton, who is leading the project, said: “We have worked tirelessly with local residents and council representatives, taking on board all their feedback, to produce a scheme that transforms this area of Gosforth.

“Our vision is to build a community with a choice of home types and new green spaces for everyone to enjoy.”

He continued: “Thoughtfully considered design is evident throughout Regents Plaza, from the contemporary remodelled exterior and spacious interiors through to the use of the latest technology in detection systems, soundproofing and hi-speed connectivity.”

Regents Plaza is expected to welcome its first residents in Autumn 2019.

Gary added: “There’s been a great deal of interest already and our managing agents are already taking details from those wanting to look round the showhomes later in the spring.”

The Gosforth office of chartered surveyors and estate agency Bradley Hall will market the development.

Jonathan Rudge, Bradley Hall’s head of land, development and new momes, commented: “We’re delighted to have been instructed to market this exciting new development.

“Regents Plaza will provide a variety of high-specification homes available to suit all budgets.”
