Newcastle team assembled for MIPIM property exhibition

Key players in Newcastle’s property sector are set to represent the city at the upcoming MIPIM event in France.

The delegation, which will include the likes of GVA, Mott Macdonald and Ryder Architecture, is jetting off to Cannes in March to showcase the city’s biggest property development and investment opportunities.

This year is the fourth that Invest Newcastle has led a public-private sector delegation to the conference, which is held at the Palais des Festivals.

Over 26,000 delegates from 100 countries are expected to descend on Cannes’ flagship convention center, linking Newcastle with key decision makers from all over the world.

The Newcastle-based organisations involved are: Gateshead Council; GVA; The World Wheel Company; Ryder Architecture; UK Land Estates; Engie; High Street Group; Naylors; Quorum Business Park; The Hanro Group; Gavin Black; Port of Tyne; Deloitte; Newcastle Helix; NE1; Knight Frank; Union Property; LOK developments; Bradley Hall; Lambert Smith Hampton; Tier One Capital; Ward Hadaway; Sir Robert McAlpine; Newby; Faulknerbrowns Architects; and Mott Macdonald

The Newcastle stand will provide a platform for partners to engage with investors and deliver an events programme that demonstrates the city’s strengths in digital, technology, culture, healthcare and innovation. It will also focus on devolution and the opportunities it is forecast to bring to the region.

Nigel Hartley, chief marketing officer of The World Wheel Company, which is sponsoring a flagship conference at Cannes’ Marriott Hotel, said: “The World Wheel Company are very excited to be part of the delegation and proud to sponsor the flagship conference.

“The development will truly set Newcastle apart as a destination for first class leisure and entertainment.”

He added: “This will complement Newcastle’s global reputation and help deliver one of Europe’s best waterfront experiences. We are very excited to be launching this at MIPIM.”

Jennifer Hartley, inward investment director at Invest Newcastle, commented: “We are thrilled that so many partners will be joining us in Cannes, helping us to share our ambitions with an international audience, position ourselves as a leading city and secure investment.”

“Our partners not only act as ambassadors for our region, they use this opportunity to develop strategic relationships, pitch ideas to key decision makers and connect with investors.”

She continued: “This is such an exciting time for our region, and we can’t wait to tell the international property world all about it.”

Newcastle City Council chief exec Pat Ritchie said: “The Newcastle delegation will be heading to MIPIM at a very opportune time, when we are in an incredibly strong position to demonstrate what the city and wider North of Tyne region can offer potential investors and showcase what a great place it is to do business.

“It is also happening when we have substantial growth in the city. Newcastle Helix secured substantial private sector investment at a previous visit to MIPIM, and is set to transform the economy, cementing our position as one of the leading cities for the digital economy in the UK and creating new opportunities associated with areas of research and innovation.”

She added: “With the additional prospect of the two other key strategic sites in the city which unlock further opportunities for investment across retail and commercial sectors – East Pilgrim Street and The Stephenson Quarter – the environment for investment and economic growth is significant.”

Details of the MIPIM delegation were unveiled during a breakfast event held at the new Maldron Hotel in Newcastle.
