Pontefract’s Harris CM to build £4m warehouse facility for York footwear business

Construction firm Harris CM has secured a contract to build a multi-million pound distribution facility near York.

The £4m development will create a warehouse extension for footwear business Pavers Shoes at Catherine House, its premises on Northminster Business Park in Upper Poppleton.

Pontefract-based Harris CM has started work on the 47,000 sq ft facility, which is expected to complete in early 2020.

The steel-framed structure will house a two-tier mezzanine floor and two storeys of office accommodation. It will also feature racking and a sprinkler system.

Family-owned footwear business Pavers Ltd was founded in 1971 and operates over 100 stores across the UK and Ireland. Its first shop opened in Scarborough, followed by sites in Hull and York, where it is now headquartered.

Harris CM chief exec Jason Adlam said: “It’s a large-scale project that will allow the business to continue expanding its operations.

“Once complete, the extended warehouse will be able to accommodate the large numbers of shoes and boots necessary to support Pavers’ expansion plans.”

He continued: “We were also particularly pleased to contribute to the discussions to ensure that the warehouse extension has a state of the art fire-supressing sprinkler system that is second to none for a project of this nature.

“The contract win is also welcome news for many of our supply chain partners, who are based in the Yorkshire area. It is also our first opportunity to work with the Employer’s Agent, LHL Group, HTC Architects and, of course our client, Pavers.”
