Silicon Valley merch platform Teespring to invest $1m in UK operation
Silicon Valley e-commerce platform Teespring is investing $1m (c.£780k) in its UK content creators as its focus shifts to Britain.
The San Francisco-based company has named London its official ‘European Creator HQ’ and tasked newly appointed CEO Chris Lamontagne, its former VP commercial, to lead the drive.
Teespring is a digital platform used by creatives to sell customised t-shirts and other merchandise across the US, UK and Europe.
Creators on Teespring include YouTube stars Lucas the Spider, Mr Bean, Phil De Franco, Simon’s Cat and Aphmau – who between them have almost 30 million subscribers.
The seven-figure investment announced this morning (February 7) will strengthen its UK content creator section.
It follows a partnership with YouTube in 2018 that created the ‘merch shelf’ feature, enabling content creators in the UK, Europe and US to sell merchandise directly below their videos.
Chris Lamontagne, who is originally from Liverpool, said: “I am thrilled to have started my position as CEO this year, and part of my vision for the company going forward was to hone in on the creators, as they sit at the heart of Teespring.
“I’m excited to be investing time and effort into the UK side of the business, as the team in London can continue doing a great job of helping our creators thrive.”
