Beyond Housing Puts Former Apprentice on Track to New Career
Beyond Housing has helped a young Redcar woman cement the foundations for a career in housing.
Faye Daniels, 21, has started a full-time position as a Housing Assistant after achieving a distinction in her Level 2 Housing Apprenticeship delivered by Beyond Housing.
Faye’s apprenticeship was completed through the new Housing Standard Apprenticeship in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Housing.
Beyond Housing was one of the organisations involved in implementing the apprenticeship’s industry leading new standards.
Last year, Beyond Housing, took on six new apprentices in Redcar, four of whom are female, across different areas of the organisation, including painting and decorating, plumbing and heating, electrical and development.
During her apprenticeship, Faye undertook duties including assisting the Housing team with face-to-face and telephone enquiries from existing and potential customers, helping customers through the process of searching for a home, signing up for a property, ending a tenancy and reporting any concerns such as anti-social behaviour. She supported the team with administration tasks including making appointments, maintaining electronic filing systems and filling in paperwork.
Emma Tooth, Apprenticeship Coordinator at Beyond Housing, said: “We’re proud to be successfully delivering apprenticeships across a wide range of roles, and trailblazing with the new housing apprenticeship standards, which Faye has successfully completed.
“Apprenticeships are a big part of the organisation’s culture and we want to ensure we help them grow and develop in their roles, just as Faye has.
Emma added: “I wish Faye the best with her progression and her future career and very much looking forward to continuing to work with her.”
Faye, who organised a very successful Volunteer Awards Ceremony during her apprenticeship, arranging everything from the venue to entertainment, invitations, decoration, gifts and refreshments, said: “I’m so pleased I managed to secure a position with Beyond Housing; my ambition was always to continue to work here at the end of my apprenticeship and I’m so proud of myself for achieving this.
“Deciding to do an apprenticeship was definitely one of the best things I’ve done. I’d definitely recommend doing an apprenticeship, you get to learn through first-hand experience from the business perspective rather than from a classroom. It comes with its challenges, but my advice would be to work hard and stay focused as it’s really rewarding in the end.
“I chose housing as a career path as I thought it would be interesting and I knew I’d get the opportunity to interact with a lot of different people. There’s real job satisfaction in helping people with their housing needs and seeing them settle into new homes. I’m thoroughly enjoying being part of the Beyond Housing team.”
