Plans in for redevelopment of Hanrahan’s bar and restaurant in Sheffield

Plans are in for a multi-million pound project to turn a former restaurant in Sheffield into new homes.

The Grade II-listed building, which dates back to the 1800s, once housed the Loch Fyne seafood chain.

But it is known in southwest Sheffield as the former site of Hanrahan’s bar and restaurant, located across from the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on Glossop Road.

Sheffield developer Primesite UK is proposing to invest £4m in transforming the building into 27 apartments.

The firm has worked closely with architects Cartwright Pickard and CODA Planning. Residential sales agent Spencer will assist Primesite during the construction phase ahead of completion, subject to planning, in 2020.

Primesite director Scott Hinchliffe said: “It’s a shame that such a distinctive building has been unoccupied for so long, so I’m obviously delighted we’ve been able to acquire the buildings and get this once in a lifetime opportunity to repurpose these iconic buildings into a scheme that is really special.

“The location and configuration as well as the impact of structural issues means the building is no longer suitable for a restaurant.”

He continued: “Our architects have come up with an exciting scheme of one-, two- and three-bed apartments that reuses the majority of the building’s remaining internal structures, with the dramatic entrance and new build block to complement the heritage of the historic façade and service these high-spec/high-tech apartments in this amazing location.”

Hanrahan’s is just one of three prominent Sheffield sites being developed by Primesite.

The company is also redeveloping the former Wake Smith offices on Clarkehouse Road and the former Gilders VW car showroom at the junction of Ecclesall Road, Ecclesall Road South and Psalter Lane.

Together, the three projects have a development value of £12m.
