South West charity celebrates after bumper pay cheque

While workers across the region have only recently opened their first pay packet of the year, one South West charity is celebrating a bumper windfall.

Jessie May charity has received a whopping £87,503 from local housebuilder David Wilson Homes, after two years of fundraising by the company.

Sponsored runs, bake sales and a charity golf day were among the money-spinning ways staff and suppliers of the five-star housebuilder managed to raise the impressive amount. The golf day alone, held at the famous Celtic Manor Resort, resulted in more than £58,000.

Ian Menham is managing director of David Wilson Homes, which has its South West headquarters in Bristol and is building homes across the region. He said: “The entire company is absolutely thrilled to have raised so much for this very important local charity. As a housebuilder we’re all about supporting our neighbours and we’re pleased to have done that for Jessie May.”

Lindsey Horton, Corporate Partnerships Officer at Jessie May, said: “We all know there’s no place like home and David Wilson Homes have proved this with their incredible donation. This amazing amount of money funds an astounding 350 visits, that’s 1,050 hours of care within local families homes from Jessie May Nurses. How wonderful is that! The visits may be for respite, end of life care or bereavement support, but the opportunity to offer more time when it is needed the most is priceless!

“The two little words ‘thank you’ will never be enough but on behalf of all of our families and nurses please know that the support you have given us is truly appreciated.”

Jessie May is a local charity that provides respite care at home for terminally ill children in Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset. It currently provides 140 families with respite care and 50 families with bereavement support.
