Yorkshire high street banks up for auction with Pugh

A total of 13 former high street bank properties will feature among around 200 lots due to go under the hammer at Pugh’s property auctions in Leeds and Manchester next week.

Three former NatWest branches in Helmsley, Pickering and Driffield are all u for sale at the auction, with the two-storey, 1,300 sq ft Helmsley property, on the town’s market square, given a guide price of £200,000.

Also included in Pugh’s Leeds auction are the former RBS bank on Scunthorpe high street, and NatWest branches in Sunderland and Matlock, Derbyshire. A further seven former bank properties in Greater Manchester, Cheshire and in Southport will also feature in Pugh’s North West auction, which takes place in Manchester next week.

Pugh managing director Paul Thompson said: “There has been a digital revolution in the way our banking clients’ own customers access their services in recent years, and this has fuelled some of the changes we have seen to our high streets up and down the country.

“The good news is that banks are attractive and often highly adaptable properties, and they always generate a huge amount of interest from potential buyers. Sale by auction is one of the most rapid and effective ways to ensure that a former bank can take on a new and useful identity within a community and Pugh has earned a reputation as the go-to auctioneer for this type of property.”

Also included in the Pugh North West auction at Leeds United’s Elland Road Stadium on 21 February is a Victorian former Methodist chapel in Saltburn, North Yorkshire, which is being auctioned with a guide price of £95,000 with full planning consent for conversion to an architect-designed, 2,400 sq ft, three-bedroom house with roof garden and car parking. The canteen building at a former outdoor pursuits centre at Danby on the North York Moors will be auctioned without a reserve price.
