Age UK Durham Have Just The Recipe

For many older people living alone, the idea of preparing and making a substantial, healthy meal just for themselves is quite simply, too much to stomach. Now however, a County Durham charity has teamed up with students from Bishop Auckland College to create a recipe book containing ideas for 50 delicious and healthy meals that are very simple to make.

The idea by Age UK County Durham was initially aimed at older people but the simplicity and ease of preparation of the meals in the book have made it very popular with adults and students living alone or away from home.

Chris Fletcher from Age UK County Durham said, “The book, “Eat Well, Feel Great” features food based on the Mediterranean diet and contains full instructions on preparing ingredients and cooking. It’s the perfect companion for maintaining a healthy diet, giving loads of food options and mouth-watering dishes.” Although designed for older people, students have found that the easily made recipes are ideal for their bed sit and student accommodation lifestyles. “It seems that we have stumbled across a new audience for the book and I’m delighted that more and more groups of people are finding it useful,” said Chris. “It’s proving very popular with all ages and we’ve even had an endorsement from TV celebrity chef, Hairy Biker, Si King.”
Si said: ‘The recipe book has loads of tasty and creative healthy food to get your taste buds going, why don’t you give them a go?’

The Recipe Book is available for £5 from Amazon or just £2 from Age UK County Durham outlets with all proceeds being used to support their work with older people in the county.
