Barratt Developments raises over £27,000 for York-based charity, St Leonard’s Hospice

Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, which includes both the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, has raised a total of £27,447.46 for St Leonard’s Hospice, its chosen charity of the year in 2018.

Throughout the year, staff at Barratt Developments Yorkshire East have taken part in fundraising initiatives to raise vital funds for the charity. Team members at the region’s head office in York, rose to the St Leonard’s accumulator challenge, in which they began with £30 and were given 30 days to accumulate as much money as possible for the hospice. Fundraising activities also included raffles, a Halloween cook-off competition and a Christmas tin collection at Vanguard Shopping Park.

Eight dedicated team members also took to the streets of York for the annual 10K race, raising almost £5,000 for the local hospice. Strategic Land Manager, Daniel Starkey, made a fantastic contribution to the charity by taking part in the London Marathon, donating all sponsorships to St Leonard’s Hospice.

Daniel Smith, Managing Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire East, commented: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to hold a variety of events for St Leonard’s Hospice. We’re delighted to have raised over £27,000 to help provide much needed, specialist palliative care and support for local people with life limiting illnesses. We are committed to supporting the communities in which we build and I’m thrilled that all of our staff at Barratt Developments Yorkshire East have been really dedicated in fundraising for such a fantastic charity.”

St Leonard’s Hospice relies on donations to help deliver its care free of charge. It costs in excess of £5million a year, or £574 for every hour of every day, with the majority of funding coming from donations and fundraising by the local community. By maintaining and improving the quality of life of those within the local area, St Leonard’s Hospice is able to offer support during the course of illnesses for patients as well as their family and friends.
