Leeds South Bank: Advisors chosen for City Region’s ‘most significant strategic development mandate’

Cushman & Wakefield is set to advise on the redevelopment of Leeds station and the surrounding regeneration area.

The real estate services giant will provide strategic advice to Leeds City Council and commercial property developer LCR on the transformation of the integrated station and wider Leeds South Bank scheme.

Once complete, the project – among the largest regeneration areas in Europe – could double the size of Leeds city centre.

The city council and LCR are jointly delivering the Leeds Station Integrated Masterplan (LISM) and a raft of commercial ventures to drive the area’s economic growth.

The redevelopment of Leeds station, already the North’s busiest transport hub, will turn the site into a gateway linking HS2 with other rail services.

Stephen Miles, partner in Cushman & Wakefield’s Leeds-based development and planning team, said: “We are excited to be involved in what is, arguably, the most significant strategic development mandate in the region.

“The creation of a new integrated station offers the opportunity to not only establish a new gateway to the Leeds City Region but also to drive the commercial transformation of Leeds South Bank.”

He added: “We look forward to working with Leeds City Council and LCR to help realise this opportunity.”

Cushman & Wakefield’s appointment on Leeds station and South Bank follows the launch of the Leeds City Region HS2 Growth Strategy, prepared by the council in collaboration with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

The strategy’s aim is to maximise the benefits of HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail for the Leeds City Region, which could include the creation of as many as 41,000 jobs and a £54bn boost for the region’s economy.

Cushman & Wakefield’s development and planning team is advising on HS2 nationally.
