Stockton Globe reopening to generate £18m annually for local economy

Teesside venue Stockton Globe is due to restored and reopened in 2020 under the management of international venue operator Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG).

By transforming the original art deco building on Stockton High Street into a 3,000+ capacity venue, ATG aims to create the largest live venue between Newcastle and Leeds, and anticipate that the Globe will generate £18m a year for the local economy.

With almost 50 worldwide venues in their portfolio, ATG plans to use its knowledge in live venue operations to revive the North East theatre.

Restoration plans include full refurbishment of the existing site into a 3,000+ capacity venue, as well as the opening of a smaller venue in the adjoining building.

First opening in 1935, the theatre has a rich history of music and entertainment. It hosted internationally-renowned acts like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Sadler’s Wells Ballet and the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company before its closure in 1974.

By restoring the Globe, ATG hope to attract top class entertainment talent to Stockton.

Adam Kenwright, group board director of ATG, said: “The company are already in discussions with household music and comedy acts so that we can bring these stars to the Tees Valley community and back onto the Globe’s stage.”
