Complete Sheffield City Region MIPIM programme unveiled

The speakers for Sheffield City Region’s new programme have been revealed.

The programme is being held at MIPIM in Cannes, the world’s biggest property market.

According to Sheffield City Region, MIPIM provides a platform to “showcase our region’s investment potential. It’s where deals are done and new business relationships forged.”

Sir Nigel Knowles, special advisor for trade and investment to Dan Jarvis, Mayor of the Sheffield City Region, said: “There are some truly exciting events taking place as part of this year’s MIPIM programme.

“The theme running throughout our programme is our vision for a Global Innovation Corridor, sweeping through the heart of the Sheffield City Region connecting people, places and ideas.

“It’s fantastic to have so many organisations that are integral to that vision joining us in the SCR delegation to tell that story at MIPIM.”

The Sheffield City Region’s public and private sector delegation includes representatives from organisations including the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University, Harworth Group, Scarborough Group and Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

The delegation will arrive at MIPIM next week on Monday March 11, where Sir Nigel Knowles will welcome guests to the SCR HQ and invite them to view the Sheffield City Region’s new Showreel video, that reveals the region’s portfolio of opportunities.

The following morning, events will kick off with ‘Housing the Powerhouse’, focusing on urban regeneration opportunities across the region.

Chaired by Scott Cardwell, assistant director for development at Doncaster Council, panellists will include Ben Derbyshire, president of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA); and David Cross, chairman of Coda Studios.

Director of estates at Sheffield Hallam University, Daniel Ladbury, added: “We are committed to the Sheffield City Region, providing leadership to drive improvements in social mobility, health and the economy.

“Our industrial partnerships allow us to address the skills gap and helps business grow and our research is characterised by a focus on real world impact - addressing the health, cultural, economic and social challenges facing society today.

“MIPIM provides us with an invaluable opportunity to showcase this work to a global audience and champion the Sheffield City Region as a strong proposition in which to live, work, learn and invest.”

The week-long programme is said to be full of panels, morning to evening events and more.

Matt Hutton, associate director at Bond Bryan, concluded: “MIPIM is about being surrounding by like-minded professionals who strive to drive growth in our region; it’s invaluable to be able to get a wider perspective on where the market is heading and to build new and lasting relationships.

“Property is a ‘people business’ and MIPIM offers the spontaneity of engaging in discussions, informal meetings and chance encounters in a relaxed atmosphere.

“Overall there is a universal openness to new people and opportunities which is really refreshing and is reflective of the confidence within Sheffield City Region at the moment. It’s a truly exciting time for the region.”
