New Ponteland fire station gets the go-ahead
Plans for a new fire station and training facility in Ponteland has been approved.
Situated on Callerton Lane, the 1,358 sq m site will include a single-storey fire station, training tower, drill yard, and parking for up to 13 cars.
The move to demolish and relocate the fire station forms part of a plan to create a £42m leisure and learning facility in the town, north of the new fire station site.
It is anticipated that the construction of the station will create several new construction jobs, in addition to opportunities that development of the wider area may bring.
The approval of plans has been welcomed by Hedley Planning Services, who have been working on the project for the last 12 months, along with the local authority and Ryton architecture firm Gradon Architecture.
Sean Hedley, managing director of Hedley Planning Services, commented: “This is an important planning approval, which will now help to pave the way forward for wider development of the area and allay local concerns about the future provision of fire and rescue services in Ponteland.”
