Co-Op connects consumers with 'ethical' app tapping into sustainability standards

Co-op has become the first UK retailer to join ethical living app, CoGo.

As a business with a clear social commitment and high ethical and sustainability standards, Co-op has joined CoGo to further support consumers who want businesses to tackle ethical and sustainable issues.

It is said that 286 London Co-op stores will feature on the CoGo app connecting with consumers on the issues they care about and to position the community retailer as a champion of ethical trade.

Ali Jones, customer director at Co-op, said: “At Co-op we’ve been taking action on what matters most for decades. We listen to our members and customers to shape our policies and energise our work.

“The products we sell impact millions of people, communities around the world, as well as the planet and that’s why we work hard to make our products different, we always have done. To make them good for our customers, and the planet we share.

“Joining up with CoGo is a natural fit for Co-op and we are passionate about taking action on the issues our customers and members care about.”

CoGo links businesses to consumers’ payment cards, providing insight on how spending is benefiting them and their communities.

It also allows shoppers to be matched to local, ethical and sustainable businesses that align with the values they care about.

Ben Gleisner, founder and CEO of CoGo, added: “We are thrilled to be working with Co-op as it shares the same social and ethical values that we want to promote across all business sectors in the UK.

“Consumers are becoming thinking twice about the purchase decisions they make and are keen to support companies that are doing good for communities and the planet.

“We look forward to working with Co-op to help them connect closer with these customers and to tap into the business opportunities available in the world of conscious consumerism.”
