Meals, Now on Wheels…
Local taxi firm, Budget Taxis, has generously donated a van to a local homeless charity. The North East Homeless Charity (NEH) aims to supply much-needed food, clothing, advice and help to the homeless in the region and rely on donations from the regions’ businesses and individuals to carry out their much-needed work.
The charity travels across the city once a week providing warm clothing, hot food, mobile phones and blankets to those living on the streets, in the hope of offering some level of comfort during tough times.
The van, supplied by Budget Taxis, will allow the charity to expand their reach and increase the frequency of their salvation mission, meaning that more homeless people in the region will receive more frequent care.
Mohammed Suleman, (Suly) owner of Budget Taxis explained why he had made the generous gesture;
“North East Homeless delivers an exceptional service to the regions’ homeless community, providing those without the basic essentials with a level comfort. It is important for us to try to help them where we can, and if the van will help them to expand their services, it’s the least we can do.”
This is not the first time that Budget Taxis has stepped in to lend a helping hand to North East Homeless. At Christmas time, after hearing that nobody had been able to provide the turkeys for their Christmas dinners, the charity was organising for those on the streets, Suly generously supplied the main part of the meal.
Helping in excess of 150 homeless citizens each week, NEH is an outreach programme aimed at making the lives of the regions’ homeless men and women a little more comfortable during their time of need.
Brian Burridge, founder of NEH stated that the charity is “eternally grateful” for all the help they have been given, by both Budget Taxis and the general public. He also commented that they are always in need of assistance, and “if there is anyone who would want to also lend a hand, we’re always willing to accept donations and assistance.”
