CONSTRUCTION FIRM TRAINEE BACKS NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP CAMPAIGN

A successful trainee with Persimmon Homes is lending her support to a national campaign promoting apprenticeships.

Chelsea Wainwright, 19, is enjoying a new career with Persimmon Homes Durham after completing her apprenticeship in Business Administration and is now working to achieve additional qualifications.

Chelsea, of Coxhoe, joined the construction firm in 2016 and after completing her Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration at Bishop Auckland College and has since been promoted to Assistant Buyer at the firm’s Bowburn offices.

To further her career and boost her qualifications she is now combining a Level 4 Advanced Apprenticeship with her new role, which sees her purchasing materials for building sites, liaising with suppliers and negotiating prices.

Chelsea said: “The apprenticeship has benefited my professional life and my personal life in many ways; I have gained a full-time role within the company and have since been promoted to Assistant Buyer. This has enabled me to buy a new car and also get onto the property ladder, with the purchase of my first home in October.

“The course has built my confidence because of the knowledge I have gained through studying the qualification. I wouldn’t be at such an advanced stage in my career without the help of Bishop Auckland College and the course I have studied. I would definitely recommend this apprenticeship to other young people as it has certainly kick started my adult life in the most positive of ways.”

Richard Cook, director in charge of Persimmon Homes Durham, said: “Apprenticeships are an excellent way for young people to gain practical experience in the workplace and earn recognised qualifications.

“Persimmon Homes celebrates apprenticeships with its own in-house awards and welcomes apprentices in all sectors of the business.

“Chelsea has earned her place here at the Bowburn office and her promotion reflects the hard work and dedication she has put in to gaining her qualifications, she has fitted in perfectly here with the team.”

Bishop Auckland College supported Chelsea through her training and is currently advertising vacancies for apprenticeships as part of its support for the 12th National Apprenticeships Week.
