Housebuilder’s donation gives charity its own magic moment
A charity that supports bereaved families has received a £1,000 windfall from Barratt Homes in Bristol, after becoming the latest recipient of the housebuilder’s new community initiative.
The Barratt Homes Community Fund donates £1,000 each month to a charity or organisation which improves the quality of life for those living in the region. The new scheme is part of the company’s pledge to strengthen its ties with the areas in which it is building new homes.
Magic Moments is one of the first recipients of the new fund and the charity has a special place in the heart of one Barratt Homes’ employees, whose family was supported by its services.
Ashley Smith lost his five-year-old son to cancer nearly four years ago. His family came into contact with Magic Moments through the charity’s work with Children’s Hospice Southwest at Charlton Farm, Wraxhall.
Ashley said: “They saw how much help a family still needs after losing a child to cancer and offered us a family trip to Disneyland Paris. This trip allowed us quality time with our two other children whilst talking and remembering Rory. It also gave us the opportunity to meet and speak with other families who had gone through similar experiences.”
He continued: “Magic Moments went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable trip and they spoiled the children, creating special memories for us as a family. They really are an amazing charity and with this donation hopefully they can carry on and help many more families now and in the future.”
Russell Glimstead, managing director of Barratt Homes in Bristol, said: “Being able to support charities like this is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. We were all touched by Ashley’s story and are so pleased to be able to support Magic Moments through our new community fund.”
Jonathan Martin, Chair of Magic Moments, said: “We are immensely proud of the work we do within the local communities, and to receive this donation is very humbling. I would like to thank Barratt Homes for this kind gesture, this will go towards sending another family just like Ashley’s to Disneyland to make more special memories.”
