LSH to manage £5.5m development on former NUM HQ site
Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) has been appointed to manage the former National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) headquarters site in Sheffield.
The building at Barkers Pool, originally commissioned by trade unionist Arthur Scargill, has been converted into leisure and office units in a £5.5m refurbishment after a period of dereliction including the threat of demolition.
Grant Thornton has already leased office space in the redeveloped 30,000 sq ft building, which has also become home to The Pitcher and Piano bar as well as Caribbean-themed restaurant Turtle Bay who moved in at the end of 2018.
Greg Barraclough, associate director in the property management team at LSH’s Sheffield office welcomed the new appointment: “LSH is delighted to have been appointed to manage such a prominent City Centre building, especially given the historical significance that the former NUM building has to Sheffield.
“With Grant Thornton relocating to the City Centre and the three new leisure outfits created, it is sure to play a key part in Sheffield’s vibrant future.”
