Oldest hotel in Sheffield gets £3m makeover under new branding

Sheffield’s oldest hotel has been rebranded to the Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Sheffield with a £3m refurbishment.

The hotel mixes grand Victorian architecture with the very best modern facilities and services, all under the umbrella of one of the world’s leading business hotel brands, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts.

Situated at the site of Sheffield’s historic Victoria train station, the hotel was considered one of the most complete and luxurious hotels in the United Kingdom when it was built in 1862.

It was given its ‘Royal’ prefix after a visit of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1905.

The hotel joins more than 400 Crowne Plaza hotels internationally, and is the third Crowne Plaza hotel in Yorkshire.

The Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Sheffield has 105 bedrooms, alongside a fitness suite and sauna, complementary WiFi and 24-hour room service.

The hotel owners, Hermann Beck and John Conroy also operate the Holiday Inn Express® Sheffield City Centre.

Managing director, Hermann Beck said: “Our concluding refurbishment plans will see the remainder of our 105 bedrooms fully modernised and will complement the on-going improvements and investment we have made to the property in recent years.”
