‘King of Soho’ legacy lives on with relaunch of Boulevard Theatre

Soho Estates’ director Fawn James has announced the launch of the revived Boulevard Theatre later this year in London’s West End.

Originally established as a sister site to Revuebar by Fawn’s grandfather - famous property magnate and ‘King of Soho’ Paul Raymond - the Boulevard Theatre will be reopened as a 165-seating-capacity venue.

The Boulevard Theatre was most famously known for Peter Richardson’s Comic Strip, and showcased a range of erotic, comedy and straight plays including ‘Women Behind Bars’, ‘The Marilyn Chambers Show’ and Eddie Izzard’s ‘Raging Bull’ comedy club.

Situated in Walker’s Court in Soho, the revamped theatre will be led by artistic director Rachel Edwards, founder of Tooting Arts Club.

Featured acts in the reopened venue will include late night live music, comedy, spoken word, cabaret and film, as well as in-house productions utilising new VR technology and a multiple-configuration revolving auditorium and balcony.

With the theatre scheduled to open to the public at the end of 2019, Fawn hopes the venue will serve to honour her grandfather’s legacy by promoting Soho as an arts and entertainment district.
