New lease of life for Leeds east side with proposed development

A planning application for a new mixed-use development east of Leeds city centre has been submitted for approval.

Property developer Gold & Amber has proposed a new mixed-use development for the site on Shannon Street near Quarry House, which is currently used as a car park and commercial space and was formerly the home of the Shannon Street Mills textile factory.

Plans for the site include two new 10 and 20 storey residential buildings, with commercial units on the ground floor, as well as a resident’s gym, communal space and green areas.

Designed with the site’s historic heritage in mind, the development would feature a combination of traditional and contemporary features such as red brick and large warehouse style windows.

The proposed plans are the latest in a number of regeneration developments in the city, with permission granted for the transformation of a neighbouring space into residential and commercial development Lucent Square.

Gold & Amber director Sophie Brown commented: “The city centre’s residential population is growing at pace and the area around Shannon Street and Marsh Lane, which is just a short walk from the likes of Victoria Leeds and Kirkgate Market, will provide high quality homes for many people keen to live in central Leeds.

“This latest planning application complements everything else happening in Quarry Hill and would be an integral piece of the overall jigsaw for the area.”
