The grass is greener as Middlesbrough vegan market doubles in size

Middlesbrough’s first vegan food store in Dundas Market has doubled in size in under a year to accommodate increasing demand.

Launched in 2018, The Little Vegan Market has proved to be a hit with local shoppers, prompting owners Charlotte Bottomley and Matthew Wilson to expand into a neighbouring unit in the town centre mall.

The success of Charlotte and Matthew’s venture mirrors a nationwide trend of increasing interest in veganism. Matthew explained: “Veganuary was massive with lots of people coming in – even if they had no intention of going vegan – just asking questions. It’s fantastic that it’s becoming so mainstream.”

The extra space will be used to increase the store’s variety of stock, as well as the implementation of a sustainable initiative to reduce packaging by encouraging customers to use their own containers.

With a successful start under its belt, the store is on track to deliver on its five year growth plan, developed with the help of Dundas Market manager David Harris.

David commented: “It’s been extremely satisfying to see The Little Vegan Market become so successful so quickly…Everybody connected with Dundas Market is proud of what they have achieved and their presence has been of great benefit to all of the businesses around them.”
