Newcastle set for Indian summer with new street food restaurant
A new Indian street food restaurant is preparing to open its doors in Newcastle city centre this summer.
Situated on Clayton Street, street food eatery My Delhi will open to the public in early May, and is expected to create 15 full and part time jobs.
Taking inspiration from the sights, sounds and tastes of India’s cosmopolitan capital city, the restaurant will combine traditional Delhi dishes with authentic Indo-Chinese cuisine, as well as serving cocktails and mocktails in a specially-designed exotic setting.
My Delhi director Shah Amin commented:“We’re excited to open what we hope is the first of many My Delhi restaurants. We’ve been working on this concept for quite some time and we feel the timing and location is perfect for what we’re looking to bring.
“The concept pays great homage to the cuisines of India’s capital city, inspired by street food hawkers and age-old Mughal recipes. We’ve also created a new kind of dining experience that will transport our diners to Delhi.”
The restaurant’s planned opening complements an ongoing revival of the Clayton Street area, including the recent opening of the four-star Maldron Hotel as part of a £100m development on the former Newgate Shopping Centre site.
Shah added: “Newcastle is perfect for us, it would be amiss not to start our first outlet in a city that is undergoing major transformation. We expect to be creating 15 full and part time positions with a view to creating more as excitement grows.”
