Internet regulator transfers 680,000 domain names to London firm

London-based online platform business CentralNic has been selected to receive 679,840 domain names by the regulator Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Following an application process the company secured the domains and associated web services, which will be transferred in bulk from the former registrar that is no longer accredited.

Founded in 2000, CentralNic offers domain services across the world, operating 13 retail and wholesale vendors including Key-Systems, Moniker, Instra, OnlyDomains, and BrandShelter.

Supporting over seven million domains already, the company anticipates any additional servicing costs for the new domain names will be minimal thanks to its existing scalable platform.

Ben Crawford, CEO of CentralNic, commented: “We are delighted to have been transferred these domain names by ICANN.

“This was a competitive process and our selection is a huge endorsement of the quality of our scalable platform, our exemplary track record and excellent reputation in the industry. We hope to be able to announce further successes of this kind in future.”
