The Point at Polzeath to co-host Annual Asbri Golf Cornish Festival

The Point at Polzeath will co-host the Asbri Golf Cornish Festival for the first time this April. The sell-out event has attracted more than 450 golfers from all over Britain.

The venue, known for it’s up and coming reputation and location perched above Polzeath, will be one of the venues for the event from 2nd-4th April alongside the Championship courses of Trevose and St Enodoc. With its stunning contemporary accommodation with sea views, The Point is well positioned as a base for the event.

Jeremy Davies, owner of The Point, said: “We are thrilled to be co-hosting this event for the first time this year. Our ever-improving course is the jewel in our crown and we are really proud to be a part of the Asbri Golf Cornish Festival. Our course continues to evolve and we are really pleased with the progress”

Mr Davies added: “The three courses sit either side of the Camel Estuary and are within six miles of each other, as the crow flies.

PGA Regional manager Robert Moss said: “The Point held the successful final Order of Merit event, The Race to the Point, for the second time last year. The club hosts two Pro-Ams and the Marston’s Brewery managers day is being held there this Spring for the third time.”

Mr Davies, a five-handicap golfer at Trevose, Huntercombe and The Berkshire has invested considerably in refurbishing the property. He says. “Greater involvement with the PGA is another step forward and further recognition of all the work of our greenkeeping team lead by our head greenkeeper Tom Collings, who was here before we took over six years ago. Tom along with Elizabeth Lehan, who manages the golf have worked tirelessly to help us turn the business around.”

The wonderful parkland venue with outstanding views overlooking Pentire Point and Newlands Island was originally known as Roserrow Golf and Country Club. Mr Davies, who formerly worked in London and his wife Eva rescued the ailing club from administration and renamed it The Point at Polzeath.

Architect Tim Lobb has redesigned the course originally laid out by David Feherty. The facilities include a restaurant, bar, health club, gym and swimming pool and onsite accommodation. The club was named England Golf ClubMark Club of the year for 2017.

The club is hopeful that the Cornish festival will put them firmly on the golfing map in the South West.
