Firm brings sparkle to the high street with jewellery shop launch
A Saltburn father and son team have opened a jewellery shop in the town’s Station Square thanks to the council’s high street support scheme.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s initiative to encourage businesses to open premises in central locations has enabled the Yorkshire Jewellery Company to open its store, specialising in handmade jewellery made with sustainably sourced Whitby jet and other semi-precious stones.
Founded by Robert Metcalfe and his father Roger, the Yorkshire Jewellery Company secured a shop fit out as a result of the support provided by the council.
Roger explained: “We’re very confident of our business’ future here in Saltburn. Getting in touch with the Council for business support is a no brainer really.”
Margie Oliver, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s business & employment growth manager, commented: “Thriving businesses benefit the whole borough. They create jobs, takeover empty shops and business units, buy from other local firms, support other local shops.”
“It’s brilliant to see Richard and Roger at this point. The shop looks amazing and I’m sure they’ll prove to be a huge success.”
