Teesside financial planners take on cycling challenge for prostate cancer charity
Four team members from Active Chartered Financial Planners are swapping pensions for pedals as they take on the ‘Football to Amsterdam’ cycling challenge, covering 150 miles over 2 days.
Active Directors Karl Pemberton, Paul Gibson, and Karl Nendick, and consultant Andy Mitchell, will take on the gruelling ride from Barnsley FC to Amsterdam’s Johan Cryff Arena to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
Andy previously completed the challenge in 2018 and has now signed the directors up to join him for the ride.
The team is hoping to raise £5000 for the charity through sponsorship on its Just Giving page and has already raised more than £1000 towards its goal.
On 7June, the quartet will cycle from Barnsley to Hull, board the overnight ferry to Rotterdam, and then complete their journey to Amsterdam the next day.
Andy Mitchell said: “Last year’s trip was excellent! The scenery along the route was beautiful and it’s such a fantastic cause. Prostate cancer could affect any man.”
Paul Gibson said: “I’m delighted to be taking part in the Football to Amsterdam cycling challenge this year. Charity is an important part of the culture at Active, and this is such a great cause, I was pleased to sign up.”
Karl Nendick said: “Prostate cancer kills one man every 45 minutes, which is the equivalent of two men during one football match. It is important to raise awareness of this disease, as well as money to help research potential cures, so we can hopefully see an end to this awful illness in our lifetime.”
