A Yorkshire soap company pledges to use 100% sustainable materials

A Barnsley-based family business, which creates handmade bath and body products, has pledged to use only 100% recyclable or sustainable materials ahead of Earth Day on 22nd April 2019.

The Pretty Little Treat Co. produces vintage-inspired bath and body products, using natural and locally sourced ingredients.

From 22nd April onwards, all products will be packaged using compostable and biodegradable paper tape, potato starch cellophane bags, packing chips and FSC certified cardboard boxes and paper.

The majority of the firm’s products come in glass jars with aluminium lids and for shower products, where glass is not permitted for safety reasons, the business uses 100% recyclable PET plastic. All elements can be recycled or composted in home recycle bins.

Pretty Little Treat Co. also reuses packing materials sent from their suppliers, to keep waste to an absolute minimum.

Managing director, Vicky Woodger, who took over Pretty Little Treats in 2017, has put plans in place to ensure all elements of the Pretty Little Treat products can be recycled or reused, to reduce the amount of waste the company generates.

The Pretty Little Treat Co. create beautiful skincare products for both men and women that are also suitable for wedding favours, birthday presents and other occasion gifts too. Vicky Woodger comments:

“We want to build a responsible business that creates products for our customers that we know they are going to love. We’ve listened to our loyal customer base and understand their growing concerns about the sustainability of the products they buy.

“We’re passionate about responding to these needs and so, have pledged to make sure all our packaging can now be recycled or reused. Just because we’re pretty (and pink!) doesn’t mean we’re not green! Doing our bit for the environment has always played a huge part in what we do here at Pretty Little Treat Co…in fact it’s kind of been ingrained in us from the start, it’s just that we’ve never shouted about it.

Every decision we make about our products has careful consideration from the highest quality raw ingredients we use to the way we package and ship out our gorgeous products and gifts to our customers.“
