£200m East Yorkshire rail manufacturing facility to create up to 700 jobs
Rail transit company Siemens Mobility has officially submitted an application for a rail manufacturing facility to be built in East Yorkshire.
Based in Goole, the proposed £200m development comprises 80,000 sq m of manufacturing and commissioning warehouse space, as well as a four storey 5,000 sq m office building.
This application is the latest rail development for Siemens Mobility, which secured a £1.5bn contract in November 2018 with London Underground Limited (a subsidiary of Transport for London) for the regeneration of the Picadilly Line.
If successful, the first phase of the manufacturing facility is expected to open in 2023 with the development anticipated to be fully operational by 2025, creating up to 700 jobs.
Will Wilson, managing director of rolling stock at Siemens Mobility, explained: “This is a major step forward for our plans. With digitalisation we can help make trains and infrastructure intelligent and reaching this milestone furthers our vision to create a sustainable, long-term and technically advanced facility that is an asset to the UK.
“As a company we already have strong links in the local area. This latest development would further deepen much needed commitment to the region, with a key focus on the local supply chain. It will establish a lasting legacy of related skills to further the UK’s ability to compete on a global scale.”
