Teesside University supports Northumberland firm’s rail innovation
Manufacturer Transmission Dynamics has developed technology ‘to revolutionise’ train locomotive maintenance thanks to support from Teesside University.
Based in Cramlington, the firm specialises in wireless telemetry and data acquisition systems for a range of global sectors including renewables, mining, marine, defence, automotive and rail.
Transmission Dynamics was supported by the university’s business innovation managers in applying for a grant worth nearly £500k from non-departmental public body Innovate UK, which enabled it to develop its smart oil plug product designed to minimise the need for costly rail rebuilds.
Prof. Jarek Rosinski, chief executive of Transmission Dynamics, explained: “This has been an excellent partnership with the University which has yielded significant results. The feedback that we have received from Innovate UK is that this project has been one of the best funding bids that they have received.”
Teesside University’s director of academic enterprise Laura Woods added: “This has been a fantastic collaboration with Transmission Dynamics and it is great to see it bearing fruit.
“The company is developing some truly innovative technology which is set to have a major impact on our transport systems.”
