International robotics firm partners with college to futureproof workforce

International tech company ULC Robotics has partnered with Middlesbrough College’s apprenticeship and training arm Northern Skills Group to boost STEM skills in the region.

With corporate offices in New York, ULC Robotics develops and manufactures complex robotic systems and carries out research and development of new innovative technology solutions to help energy and utilities companies address their problems.

Through the partnership, the college’s engineering and mechanical students will have the opportunity to work on robotics projects with the firm, developing skills that will benefit the region’s industries.

ULC Robotics’ UK operations VP Graeme Cleeton has ties to the region, as he is originally from Middlesbrough. He explained: “I’m passionate about offering the next generation opportunities, and our sector must invest in skills development to ensure we have a sustainable future.

“We’re excited to be partnering with Northern Skills Group to develop a programme that will give us the skills and knowledge to keep innovating and adding value to our clients.”

The robotics specialist is the latest firm to work with the Northern Skills Group, who offer skills training at its STEM Centre at Middlesbrough College across a range of sectors including automotive, logistics, engineering and energy.

Karen Knights, regional manager at Northern Skills Group, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to start a career in one of the world’s most exciting and fastest growing sectors.

“ULC is the latest company we’re pleased to be supporting to grow and futureproof its workforce.”
