Global firm boosts London presence with new £90m data centre
Data specialist Equinix has officially opened its latest International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre in London.
Situated at the firm’s London Slough base, the new LD7 centre is Equinix’s 12th IBX site in the UK, forming part of a £295m investment into the country’s digital infrastructure.
With over 200 sites in 52 markets around the world, US headquartered company Equinix specialises in connecting companies to international data centres and boosting their ability to conduct business on a global scale.
Equinix UK managing director Russell Poole commented: “We are still seeing significant customer demand in London, as enterprises look to increase their business offering through implementing IT infrastructures that are able to keep pace with the continually evolving digital landscape.”
As well as supporting businesses with IT transformation, the new LD7 centre will be heavily involved in the rollout of 5G technology across the UK.
He continued: “London has maintained its position as one of the most important connection points in the world, despite the ongoing Brexit negotiations, and this new data center will be a welcome addition to our burgeoning London Slough campus, whilst also supporting the rollout of 5G in the UK.
“As one of the most technologically advanced data centers in the world, LD7 is also set to raise the bar for sustainability in the data center industry, which is very important to us.”
