120-year-old Yorkshire law firm eyes future with new hire
ONE of Yorkshire’s longest-established law firms has strengthened its corporate and commercial specialism with its latest appointment.
Solicitor Darren Carter has joined Leeds-headquartered Milners, bringing with him 14 years of legal expertise working with a raft of owner-managed businesses, SMEs, PLCs and the third sector across Yorkshire and beyond.
Simon Bass, Milners’ Managing Partner, said: “Darren’s track record in this specialism will be a tremendous asset for new and existing clients.
“He will help us to spearhead the development of our services in this area of law, as well as mentor other members of our team.
“We are delighted to make this senior appointment and recruit a lawyer of Darren’s calibre. His blend of expertise, business insight and tactical know-how will add an extra dimension to our offering.”
He added: “We have ambitions to strengthen our services in key growth areas and Darren’s appointment marks another step forward for us as we continue to broaden our talent pool.”
Darren’s role will include drafting, advising upon, and negotiating company commercial agreements, including Memorandum and Articles of Association; intellectual property and software agreements; and general commercial agreements governing outsourcing and the supply of goods and services.
He said: “I’m thrilled to be joining a firm of Milners’ stature and pedigree. The size and structure of the firm is also perfect for providing clients with excellent advice and real value for money, which is particularly important for clients.”
Darren joins the Milners team from the Leeds office of international law firm DWF, where he was a Senior Associate. His legal CV also features roles at a brace of large regional law firms, Ison Harrison and Lupton Fawcett.
A former graduate of the University of Hull and York College of Law, Darren is a keen sports player and supporter when not entertaining his two children, and has also conquered the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge several times, raising money to support the fight against cancer.
Milners, which also has offices in Harrogate and Pontefract, is among Yorkshire’s longest-established solicitors and recently marked its 120th anniversary.
