Dreams really come do true for Roberta
Local awarding winning hairdresser Roberta Wilson is proof that dreams really do come true by opening her own salon after over 30 years in the business!
Roberta Wilson has been a successful hairdresser for over 30 years - winning countless awards and with an army of devoted, loyal clients. After being mobile for most of that time, Roberta took a leap of faith and last year started renting a small one seat room in Alfreton, this led to Roberta wanting more and in her own words ‘realising her dream’ of owning and running her own salon. Well that dream is now a reality for Roberta, 47 from Alfreton officially cut the ribbon and formally opened ‘Roberta Wilson Hairdressing’ on Monday evening. The salon is in a prime location on the High Street in Alfreton, above Purple Robes.
Roberta held a grand opening at the salon and invited family, friends, colleagues and of course her happy clients. Roberta said “I am so proud to have my own salon and for all the hard work my fiance Mark has put into refurbishing the space - it looks beautiful”. she added “The extra space will allow me to look after my clients and manage treatments, colours and those with children much easier, it’s such a relaxing environment and one I’m sure all my clients will love”.
As the salon is so large, Roberta is now also able to offer beauty and nails treatments for her clients. Skye Newton of Nail Beauty is now using one beauty room at the salon and joins Roberta on this exciting journey. Skye said “I am so excited to be joining Roberta in her beautiful salon and working together to grow both our client offerings - it’s just the perfect fit”.
Roberta had been mobile for most of her hairdressing career but for the last year she rented a room at the Tanning Shop, Supertan on King Street, this gave her the stepping stone and confidence to take the plunge and go for her own salon.
Roberta said: “It’s took a lot of blood, sweat and at times tears to get the salon ready and up to the standard I really wanted. It used to be a photographers and we hoped to turn it around it in three weeks but it’s taken much longer due to the work required and it being such an old building, so it’s been a huge challenge.”
Dawn Spendlove, a client of Roberta’s said “Roberta is just brilliant, she is always up-to-date with the latest cutting and colour techniques and is so welcoming, we always have a great catch up and a lot of laughs, I am so proud of Roberta and what she has achieved – she will continue to grow and be a massive success”.
