Immersive cinema experience to launch at former Luther filming location

Alternative cinema specialist Backyard Cinema has announced it will establish its first permanent venue in Greenland’s Ram Quarter development in Wandsworth.

Located at property developer Greenland’s regeneration of Wandsworth’s former brewery, the site was previously home to Capital television studio buildings, where shows such as Luther, Spooks, Saturday Kitchen and Ready Steady Cook were filmed.

Established initially as a pop-up cinema concept in founder Dominic Davies’ back garden, Backyard Cinema specialises in using interactive set builds as backdrops for screenings to create an experiential cinematic experience.

Until now, the company has operated on a range of short leases in different locations, with the Ram Quarter site marking its first permanent venue.

Dominic Davies, founder and creative director of Backyard Cinema, explained: “Our new home at Ram Quarter will give us the freedom and artistic licence to create more exciting, innovative experiences for film-goers than ever before.

“We have ambitious plans for the site and are already in conversations with a range of our partners to make sure a trip to Backyard Cinema at Ram Quarter becomes a real event for our customers.”
