Wi-Fi Revolutionises Rural Pub
A rural Yorkshire pub says superfast broadband is revolutionising its business.
The Bay Horse, in Great Heck near Selby, has recently been taken over by new management. It’s never had internet access before but Chris Smith, who has decades of experience in the pub industry, says being connected will be vital to their success.
“You can’t run a pub nowadays without wi-fi. As well as providing a lovely location for our locals, we want to catch passing trade, people who want to work away from the office on their laptops and those who want to be able to check their Facebook and Instagram accounts.
“We knew Quickline from our previous pub in Snaith so knew they would be able to help us get high speed internet here at the Bay Horse. Their superfast broadband means that we can now offer free wi-fi access to our customers. They can be connected in as little as 20 seconds. Of course, we’re also using it to promote our business online and via social media channels. We are getting a real opportunity at growth.”

The Bay Horse, which is also a destination pub for those enjoying a canal holiday on the Aire and Calder Navigation, offers high quality seafood and locally sourced steak as well as a fantastic (and increasingly popular) Yorkshire carvery every Sunday. The pub’s refreshing and home-made Grapefruit Gin, which owner Chris Smith has started to produce, is also proving to be a big hit.
Chris Smith, who took over the pub in March, continued:
“In a rural location like ours, it’s vital to be as active as possible on social media to promote what we offer to customers. We are posting most days and we have already seen a marked increase in people coming through the door. We’re off to a great start with Quickline’s help and we can foresee a successful and profitable future ahead!”
