Gosforth golf club reopens after renovation

A Gosforth-based golf club has reopened its doors following a remodelling of the club.

City of Newcastle Golf Club opened to the public again on June 3, has been undergoing a full renovation since the end of January which included work on the bathrooms, kitchens and structure.

Alongside its new look and a new food and drinks menu, the venue has also employed an additional eight members of staff including a new chef, an apprentice chef and six new bar staff.

Amongst those working on the refurbishment was electrical contractors Ridley Brothers of Gosforth, Sunderland-based architects Space ID and refrigeration and air conditioning specialists, Project Refrigeration.

David Ridley, who is a director of Ridley Brothers alongside his brother Andrew, has been a member of the golf club for over 30 years and worked across a range of electrical work including the installation of fire alarms and security, CCTV cameras and lighting.

David said: “I joined the City of Newcastle Golf Club as a member when I was 13, so to take on a job at a venue close to my heart has been extremely rewarding.

“The space is looking great and it’s been fantastic for us to work on all electrical aspects whilst also watching the amazing transformation.

“Working alongside other local businesses such as Project Refrigeration, who are also members of the golf club, has meant that we all had the same goal and a personal interest in the final outcome.”

Founded in 1981, the City of Newcastle Golf Club boasts 18 holes with a clubhouse offering a bar, lounge and restaurant facilities that can be enjoyed by both the public and booked for private functions.

Michael Rutter, club manager of City of Newcastle Golf Club, said: “We wanted to make our clubhouse more attractive for both our members and the public who are welcome to pop in for a drink and a bite to eat.

“We’re looking to expand the business and attract more local people to come and visit the venue to see what we have to offer. It has been brilliant to work with local businesses such as Ridley Brothers, especially with David being a member.”
