Shulmans continues to grow with a culture of excellence
UK top 200 corporate law firm, Shulmans LLP, has reported continued growth in line with its business strategy, with turnover increasing by 9.25% to £17.6 million in the last financial year.
Tim Halstead celebrates 25 years as Managing Partner in 2019 – a remarkable achievement in a profession which often sees Managing Partners change every few years. Benefiting from the continuity of his leadership, Shulmans has averaged a solid 10% in growth over each of the last nine years, with profits rising by over 50% since 2017.
Halstead has seen the firm grow from 10 to 235 colleagues, and is proud that it is now one of the 200 largest law firms in the UK. He credits this to carefully planned growth. The firm has never undertaken a merger, being keen to preserve its own culture, resulting in a loyal and dedicated team which has developed strong relationships with its clients. Shulmans invests in making the firm a ‘great place to work’ and this is evidenced in the way that it trains and retains colleagues through its bespoke career development programme ‘Forward with Shulmans’, which makes progression transparent and achievable for everyone.
In the last financial year four colleagues were promoted to Associate and one to Partner, and all of Shulmans’ trainee solicitors were retained.
Clients are at the heart of its business, providing colleagues with interesting opportunities to share their expertise, and support businesses such as Clipper, Town Centre Securities, Barratt/David Wilson Homes, Magnet Limited and Lidl, on a regional, national and international level.
Halstead comments: “We are looking forward to the future; we have a resilient business built on excellence, and we are re-investing over £1.5 million in our technology and infrastructure this year to streamline our processes so that clients and colleagues will benefit from further efficiencies.’
