Vegan sales boost for Superdrug despite ‘challenging times’
Health and beauty retailer Superdrug has reported an uplift in sales of vegan products last year amid an overall profit dip.
Sales of the retailer’s own brand vegan products increased by 25 per cent in 2018, when pre-tax profits fell from £92.9m to £88.3m.
The growing popularity of vegan products has contributed to a rise in revenue at the chain, which went up by 3.3 per cent to £1.3bn in the 52 week period ending December 29.
The company also managed to expand its store network across the UK during this period, bringing its total number of stores to 816.
Despite speaking of “challenging times” for the British high street, Superdrug opened a 23 new stores across the country.
