Darlington garden village development to create 6000 jobs

A new mixed-use development set to create thousands of jobs has been awarded garden village status by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Burtree Garden Village in the Darlington suburb of Faverdale will see 2,000 new homes built over a 15-year period, as well as 200,000 sq m of work space.

As well as residential properties, the site will see the development of a care home, retail facilities and space for a new primary school.

It is anticipated that the scheme, designed by Washington-based Hellens Group in collaboration with Darlington Borough Council, will create over 6,000 jobs for local people.

Work is scheduled to begin next year on the project, which is one of 19 developments across the UK to have been granted garden village status.
