Top Teesside training firms announce adult literacy programme partnership
Award-winning Middlesbrough-based firm Lexonik, has announced it will be partnering with J and K Training to support its delivery of the adult functional skills programme.
Lexonik, which was recently named company of the year at Teesside Business Awards, has already begun delivering training to J and K’s tutors, who will use the programme as part of their English functional skills course.
The requirements for teaching the adult learning course will change from September 2019 to include more focus on phonics, which is a key element of Lexonik.
The Lexonik tutors will be working with the team at J and K Training to introduce a challenging literacy programme suited to all levels of learner, to help them use phonics to build up words, increasing their vocabulary.
Katy Parkinson, founder and director of Lexonik, said: “We have already done two days of training with four J and K Training tutors, and have plans to deliver the programme to another cohort of tutors in the near future.
“The partnership came from a conversation with our CEO, Claire Preston, and the leadership team at J and K Training, who had identified a need for more phonics-based material in their English functional skills course, in line with the new regulations.
“Lexonik was ideal for this, as it uses syllabification to teach learners how to build up words and expand their vocabulary. We have also ensured that our teaching materials are adult friendly, as it is difficult to find teaching resources on phonics that aren’t aimed at children.”
Katy added: “I have been nothing but impressed by the team at J and K for their interest in and dedication to learning the methodology behind Lexonik. It is a fast-paced, powerful programme that needs passionate people to deliver it. The J and K tutors have picked it up and run with it, and its delightful to see.”
Chloe McMorris, a tutor at J and K Training who was on the pilot of the Lexonik course, said: “Lexonik is like nothing I’ve ever been taught before. It will not only help learners to increase their awareness and understanding, but the tutors too.
“It’s an excellent programme and I’m certain it will lead to excellent results. Inspiring, interesting and Informative. I can’t wait to try it with my next group.”
