East Midlands businesses tee off for charity at annual golf day
Members of the East Midlands business community got into the swing on Thursday 13th June at Fraser Brown Solicitor’s sixth annual charity golf day to raise over £4,000 for regional charities.
The funds raised by Nottingham and Lincoln-based law firm Fraser Brown Solicitors will be donated to Autism East Midlands; a charity which provides support to families and individuals affected by autism, and Newlife; a charity that helps disabled children and their families across the UK.
Taking place at The Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club in Cotgrave, the event was attended by over 140 guests from the local business community, who competed in 35 teams of four taking on either the Signature or Championship courses at the club.
Alongside both courses, attendees got involved with fun competitions that included ‘Beat the pro’, ‘Longest drive’ and ‘Nearest the pin’ and a raffle took place at the prize giving dinner following play.
Main sponsors included Nottingham-based businesses; Alea Casino, 200 Degrees Coffee, Castle Rock Brewery and John Pye Auctions. Castle Rock Brewery and speciality coffee roasters 200 Degrees were also seen around the course providing refreshments for the players.
Nottingham-based recruitment agency Blusource and John Pye Auctions were the two course winners and the companies took part in the playoff to decide the overall winners, with Blusource taking home the accolade and trophy.
Prizes for the 1st team included champagne 2nd and 3rd teams included champagne for the 1st and wine for the 2nd and 3rd, alongside vouchers of £10, £20 and £50.
John Tansur, commercial director at Fraser brown said: “It’s the only day of the year when the Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club closes its doors to enable us to run our charity golf day which we are extremely grateful for.
Tim Clarke of Fraser Brown added, “More so this year than ever as the weather we have been having meant the courses were both very wet. The club’s ground team worked really hard to pump water away from the course which meant we were able to use all holes on both courses.
“Now in its sixth year, the event was better than ever in terms of money raised and the number of people attending. We are humbled by everyone’s support and exceeded our fundraising target for our chosen charities. We’re so pleased to be giving to such great causes in the region and are looking forward to next year already.”
Paul Maplesden, the Newlife Corporate Partnership Manager, said: “We are delighted to be Charity of the Year for Fraser Brown Solicitors. The support we receive means we are able to change the lives of disabled and terminally ill children throughout Nottinghamshire.
“Newlife is the UK’s largest charity providing essential and specialist equipment to disabled and terminally ill children. There are now more than 1.1 million disabled children in the UK, all of whom need support, and in many cases, specialist equipment. As demand for equipment is now reaching critical levels, it’s increasingly important for us to have partnerships, like the one we have with Fraser Brown.
“Despite the threat of rain all day, the weather didn’t dampen the spirits of all those involved. Fraser Brown should be commended for organising a fantastic event, and making sure that their commitment to the local community continues and thrives.”
