Plans for the redevelopment of Firbeck Colliery unveiled

Leading partnership home builder Keepmoat Homes has unveiled its plans to redevelop the 33 acre former Firbeck Colliery site creating around 400 new homes.

The Doncaster headquartered developer revealed the plans to redevelop the site that has laid unused for decades during a public consultation event at the Civic Centre in Calrton-in-Lindrick ahead of submitting planning to Bassetlaw Council later this month.

Dan Crew, Regional Managing Director at Keepmoat Homes commented: “We have a wealth of experience in the regeneration and transformation of former colliery sites into new homes. Recently we’ve been transforming the old Brodsworth Colliery into 342 new homes.

“We see this development as a long term scheme, that can create new homes and transform this former industrial site into a new community in a truly beautiful setting adjoining both a country park and lake.”

Cllr Jo White, Cabinet Member for Regeneration at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “This was an extremely positive event and gave local residents the opportunity to see and hear first-hand what Keepmoat have planned for the former Firbeck Colliery Site.

“This site is a key area for regeneration in Bassetlaw which has also been earmarked for development as part of Carlton’s Neighbourhood Plan. Keepmoat have a proven track record of regenerating sites like this and we welcome the submission of a planning application in due course.”

Cllr Steve Scotthorne, Ward Member for Carlton, said: “It has taken many, many years of hard work and perseverance to get to this stage and after speaking with residents and representatives from Keepmoat at the consultation event, I believe this development would be great news for the area.

“The former pit site has been derelict for years and local residents have been waiting for something to happen here for a long time. It was great to see that so many people took part in the consultation, asked questions and got to see the initial plans that Keepmoat are proposing.”

The developer hopes to start on site in early 2020 subject to planning approval.
