£600k pub refurbishment creates over 80 jobs in Northumberland

A 16th century Northumberland pub and guesthouse has been transformed into a gastro pub after a £600k investment from a local entrepreneur.

The Manor House Inn in Haltwhistle has undergone major refurbishment after being purchased by local businessman Terry Christie last year.

Situated on Haltwhistle’s main high street, the building has been transformed into a modern gastro pub, including a 50-cover restaurant, 10 boutique hotel bedrooms and private function space.

The project created 45 jobs for local tradesmen, with 38 ongoing jobs created within the Manor House including chefs, kitchen staff, hotel and bar staff.

This project has been a labour of love for Terry, who has fond memories of the Manor House from childhood holidays in the area.

Terry Christie, who spent holidays in the area as a child, commented: “I’m thrilled to be able to make a lifelong dream come true with the opening of the Manor House Inn Haltwhistle

“During the refurbishment, we’ve been very careful to restore and preserve all of the beautiful, surviving historic features such as a large sandstone fireplace, original wooden ceiling beams and the iron rings used to tie up the horses.

“These features are blended with a stylish, yet traditional interior to create a pub with a warm and cosy ambience offering high quality, locally sourced food served all day, every day and real ales that can become a real hub for the local community.”

Alan Sharp, chairman of Haltwhistle Town Council added: “This is fantastic news for the local community and Terry Christie should be hugely praised for his significant investment in Haltwhistle and for creating local employment.

“He has done an amazing job on the Manor House. The standard of finish is phenomenal and I’ve no doubt the high-quality food and drink offering, and the stunning rooms will help attract people to the area from all over the UK.”
